End of the Commons General Store

If you should ever find yourself passing through the Amish communities of Northeast Ohio, you may stumble upon a little town called Mesopotamia, Ohio. Just within the little community you will find a little store called End of the Commons General Store. The End of the Commons General Store was founded in 1840 and is the oldest operating general store in Ohio. It’s currently run by the Shaden family and sits just off State Route 87. In 2024, I made a video about the store, click HERE to see the video.

The store sells a wide mix of things, including different kinds of sodas, fry pies, cooking supplies, and camping items. Inside, there’s also a deli with fresh-cut meats and a small café that serves sandwiches and burgers. Everything is fairly priced, and the food is solid. The fry pies are easily one of the best things there.

Behind the building, there’s a family entertainment area with gemstone mining excavators you can use, a goat petting zoo, and a small candy shop that sells popcorn in 25 different flavors.

There’s also a gas station connected to the main store, which dates back to 1940. Overall, it’s a great stop with something for just about anyone, and it’s especially worth checking out if you like old buildings and antiques.
